Tulle Skirt

Good Evening Guys.

It's been a pretty warm day here in Chicago. Each weekend, you never know if we will have tons of snow or whether we will have a 60 degree day. Today it was 60 degrees. That's Chicago weather for you!

This week, I decided to do something pretty quick. I had been wanting a tulle skirt for quite some time, but just never did it. While talking to my cousin last week, she told me that she wanted one for her bridal shower. I offered to make her one, but only after I made myself one. She's getting married in May and her shower is in April. I figured now would be a good time to try it out.

I needed inspiration. The first thing that came to mind was the move Breakfast at Tiffany's. Don't ask why, but that's what I went with. I got the tulle from JoAnn's, and paired it with plain white lining. I used simple math to create my circle skirt pattern and started cutting.

The cutting part was the most tedious. If you've ever dealt with tulle, you know what I mean. I cut 7 layers of tulle and a single layer of lining. I then pinned everything together and sewed them all. The skirt has an elastic waistband and lastly I sewed on this really cute black satin ribbon.

My original length was way past my knees. That's too long for me. So I had to try to cut it evenly after it was constructed.

So it was quite windy today and my skirt was all over the place; hence this photo:
 But I fixed it quickly:

The skirt is very light and airy. This is certainly not an everyday wear type of skirt. Special occasions  only. I paired it with a simple black draped top and pearl inspired jewelry. I think that screams Breakfast at Tiffany's although my friend says I look like a schoolgirl!

Schoolgirl. Breakfast at Tiffany's....who cares. I like it and I think my cousin will like her too.

Until next time
